Use case

Fridge and freezer temperature monitoring

A walk-in fridge that fails on a Saturday night is a Monday-morning stock write-off. The paper log by the door only proves what the temperature was when someone last looked.

Put a probe in each fridge and freezer, send the readings to NoDisrupt, and the right person is texted or called while there is still time to move the stock.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    One asset monitor per unit

Name it after the unit (Walk-in fridge, Freezer 2) so the alert says exactly which door to open.

  2. Step 2

    Send a reading every minute

From a probe on an ESP32, a Raspberry Pi, or a gateway that can call a webhook. Add a door switch as a text metric if you have one.

  3. Step 3

    Set a limit with headroom

Every reading is checked as it arrives, and air temperature jumps each time the door opens. Alert at 8 C rather than 5 C, and measure with a probe in a glycol bottle or send a 5-minute average from the device, so a busy service does not page anyone.

  4. Step 4

    Escalate after hours

Email the kitchen manager first; if nobody acknowledges, text or call the next person on the policy.

What it does not do
  • NoDisrupt does not supply probes or loggers. You need a device that can post readings over HTTPS.
  • It is an alerting and history tool, not a certified data logger. Where a regulator requires calibrated, certified equipment, keep it and use NoDisrupt for the alerts.
  • Each fridge or freezer is one monitor: Free covers 10 units with email alerts. SMS and calls use the credits included with paid plans.

Common questions

What temperature should a commercial fridge be?

In the UK, the Food Standards Agency advises keeping fridges at 5 C or below. The legal limit for chilled food in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is 8 C, so 8 C is a sensible alarm point and 5 C the target.

What temperature should a freezer be?

-18 C or colder. Alert above -15 C, which leaves room for a defrost cycle but catches a failing unit.

Will it alert if the power goes off?

Yes. If the probe or its gateway loses power, readings stop, and the monitor raises an incident when the no-data window passes. The alert is sent from NoDisrupt, so it does not depend on anything on site still working.

Can I use this for HACCP records?

The readings are stored and charted, which helps you spot a unit that is drifting. Whether they satisfy your food safety plan is for you and your inspector to decide; NoDisrupt is not a certified logger.

Can I monitor several sites?

Yes. Group each site's units into its own project, and give each site's monitors an escalation policy that reaches the people at that site.
